Two-Tank Reef Dive — Playa del Carmen
The reef that runs the length of Playa del Carmen is the reason a lot of divers stop moving on and simply come back: an easy drift, good visibility most of the year, and the kind of life that rewards going slowly. Turtles asleep under ledges. Schools of grunts hanging in the current like they have been hung there. Moray eels with their heads out, spotted eagle rays crossing the sand, and — if your guide is paying attention — the small things you would never find alone: a flamingo tongue on a sea fan, a scorpionfish pretending to be rock. Two dives with a surface interval between them. Morning departures usually pair one deeper dive with a shallower one; afternoon departures keep both shallow.
Requirements: Open Water certification or above. The morning departure includes a dive below 18 metres, which needs Advanced — if you are Open Water, take the afternoon.
